AI Tools for New Moms: Must-Try ChatGPT Prompts

As a new mom, I have so many questions. So many thoughts running through my mind and things that I’ve never thought about before. Of course, we all know that parenting takes a village. Friends/family are there to help but I’ve realized it’s nice to have another tool to rely on for questions. That’s where AI has come in and boy it is a GAME CHANGER. To say that I rely on ChatGPT everyday is an understatement – I use it ALL THE TIME. It is a great ‘first stop.’ I use it before exploring other options or asking for more opinions. Below I’ve listed my favorite ChatGPT prompts that I use regularly.

  1. “Pretend you are an expert infant sleep consultant with years of experience. Help me understand my child’s sleep by asking me questions, one by one, to assess the situation and give a clear recommendation to me. Give me an ideal schedule based on the information you collect and my child’s age.” This prompt has been a lifesaver for me. In the middle of the night, I will quickly tell ChatGPT that I’m feeding my baby or the time he woke. Or once the thread is going, I’ll share when he woke and ask for his ideal nap time based on his age. I put everything in the same thread so it saves and can make suggestions based on all of the data I have shared.
  2. “Keep a log of my child’s eating habits/patterns based on information I give from breastfeeding and solid foods. Let me know if I have any gaps or if you have any recommendations.” Baby led weaning and feeding in general had this mom stressed. I needed some extra guidance to help me balance this and understand when to give my baby food to make sure that he experiments but also still is getting the majority of nutrition from breastmilk or formula. Having ChatGPT build out a schedule or help understand the types of food to try is helpful. I also recognize there are some great apps for baby led weaning and solid foods but I didn’t want to pay for those apps when I could have everything tracked with AI.
  3. “I’m a new mom and trying to balance motherhood, self-care, work, and life. Can you help me build a weekly schedule, in a table format, that helps me balance my time? As me questions to help build the schedule.” This was something that I first asked ChatGPT right when I was going back to work and felt very overwhelmed. It helped me understand what to prioritize when. It also helped me create a general schedule so that I could focus on my baby while still feeling like I had some time to take care of myself.
  4. “Can you help me understand the developmental milestones for my [insert age] old baby? What kinds of games or toys should I consider to help my child learn and grow?” I use this every month because I want to understand the types of things my child is growing into. Again, there are a lot of apps that help with this too (I love The Wonder Weeks) but this is helpful to get a quick snippet of information and new ideas. It also helps reassure you when your baby might not be doing the things at the same timeline as the standard milestones suggest.
  5. “I am a tired new mom and sometimes it feels like I have a lot on my plate. Can you help by giving me a boost of motivation and affirmation?” Sometimes you need a boost. Maybe your partner hasn’t reassured you or you just need to mentally be reminded that you’re doing a great job. It sounds weird to ask AI to do that but it also can really help when you’re having a rough day (we all have them!)

Let me know how you use AI to navigate motherhood – I’d love to try some prompts you use regularly so leave a comment for what I should try! I hope these prompts help you and give new perspective of how technology can be a great tool as we navigate motherhood and parenting.
