I spent a lot of time over the holidays cleaning out my kitchen. I recently got married and received some beautiful gifts that we stored away until we had time to clean out a cabinet and make room for the new. I took everything out of our cabinets, scrubbed them clean, said goodbye to some very loved TOTS cups from my days at Virginia Tech, and reorganized. It felt AMAZING.
Going through this gave me a lot of time to reflect on this new year. To caveat this, I am not typically a new years resolution person – I truly believe that if you want to make a change, why wait for a new year…start now! BUT I just happened to be cleaning out my cabinets over New Year’s weekend so this year I am trying resolutions out. Here is what I came up with:
- Experiment with cooking. I often rely on tried and true recipes but this year I want to mix flavors together and create things that are a bit different.
- Host friends at least 1x/month. I LOVE having people to my home but sometimes I’m self-conscious. I don’t have a huge house and I don’t want to be judged by others but I absolutely love entertaining, cooking for people, and playing games after dinner or drinks. Forget about the pressure and enjoy having people over.
- De-clutter and say goodbye to some very loved (but unnecessary things)..maybe one room at a time.
- Try one new restaurant/month
- Blog more! Spend time blogging instead of time-wasting activities.
- Work on making gluten free alternatives. I have so many family members who cannot have gluten so I want to enhance my allergen friendly dishes.
- Live in the moment – be ok with where I am and listen to my body.
Cheers to 2023!
