You’ll begin to learn that I am a big fan of the Tieghan Gerard’s Half Baked Harvest blog (and cookbook “Super Simple.” I love to try the recipes but I have learned which ones are actually simple and which ones (in my opinion) just are NOT worth the time and energy.
Tonight I made the orange chicken recipe in her book. Here is the Little Libbie rundown:
- Time and Effort: Easy (30 min or less)
- Skill Level: Medium (you’ve got to know some basic things about cooking)
- Suggestions:
- Cut the toasted sesame oil in half
- Instead of fresh squeezed orange and zest I used 1/2 cup of Costco’s organic orange juice to make it simpler and quicker (and it adds a little extra sauce). I skip the zest because I think it takes to much time
- I used 1 tsp of red pepper flakes and thought it was the perfect amount!
- I used a cast iron skillet (I have this one)- make sure to get the pan and oil very hot so that when you put the chicken in it gets crispy!
- Meal suggestions: Make rice on the side and a quick salad (or salad kit if you’re short on time)
LL’S OVERALL REVIEW: 4/5
I will 100% make this again. It wasn’t super time intensive, it was yummy and didn’t require too much coordination. Clean up after was pretty quick because it didn’t require a ton of different pots and pans and bowls. I recommend just putting any used things in the dishwasher as you go.
