Are you about to move into your first home or apartment? It is easy to think through all the things you may need after boxes are in the new place and panic buy everything. I learned the hard way of what to invest in and what to not worry about (especially if you have a roommate). Here are my tips of items that are worth spending a little more moolah on:
- Mattress – You spend a LOT of time in bed. From sleeping to lounging to getting frisky to watching Netflix, your bed should be a place where you feel comfortable. It is worth doing research and finding a mattress that works for you. So many companies today have satisfaction guarantees or risk-free trials to figure out what works for you (I’m looking at you Casper, Purple, Nectar). It can be expensive but trust me – it is WORTH IT! You will use this for years!
- Vacuum – Vacuuming can be a pain in the behind if you don’t have the right equipment. A bag-les s vacuum with filters that can be cleaned is important. I personally love the “Shark” brand – I feel like they are really high quality but not as pricey as the Dyson brand. I have had mine for 8 years and it still performs like did on the day I brought it home. I think it is also important to consider whether you think you will get a pet in your future – if so, try to look for one that has pet features.
- A good cooking knife – Cooking is a lot more enjoyable if you have a knife that works. You don’t need to go buy an entire knife set and block! Just go get yourself a classic pairing knife and I promise your cooking life will become more enjoyable and easier!
- Pots and Pans (or a pot and a pan) – Like the cooking knife, your life will be easier if you get a solid set of pots and pans. This equipment is something you use daily so focus on buying for the long term. I bought mine from Costco and I have had them for 8 years. Consider the features you want from your set – nonsick? stainless steel? lids? dishwasher safe?
- Sheet Set – Cheap sheets are tempting to buy but, guess what?, they don’t last. They pill, they stretch, they are itchy, they get hot, and they get holes. Sheets are always going to wear but spend a little bit more to get something comfortable.
I hope this helps! xo, LL
